A lozenge shape pendant in bronze. The central, slightly raised panel is decorated with a stamped geometric patterns; the undulating lines could represent serpents or water. These items were cast from bronze or - more likely - brass’ using the cire perdue or lost-wax, hollow cast technique and have an archaeological patina.
Such bronze objects objects are typical of the archaeological sites of Jenné-Jeno and the surrounding Inland Niger Delta in Mali. They often date from the 19th century.
