Mesopotamien Libations bowl (Ingen mindstepris)

Ancient Near Eastern Bronze Bowl, 1st Millennium BC Culture: Near Eastern / Eastern Mediterranean Date: Circa 1st millennium BC (c. 1000–300 BC) Material: Cast bronze Dimensions: Approx. 17 cm diameter × 5 cm height Weight: Approx. 500 g Description: Ancient Near Eastern Bronze Bowl, 1st Millennium BC. A well-preserved bronze bowl of shallow hemispherical form, cast in a single piece with a gently everted rim. The interior is plain, showing subtle concentric finishing marks consistent with ancient casting and subsequent hand-finishing. The exterior features a low, slightly raised circular foot-ring, providing stability when placed on a flat surface. The vessel has undergone professional conservation, limited to careful surface stabilisation and cleaning. The surface throughout exhibits a stable, naturally developed green patina with areas of darker and lighter mineralisation, indicative of long-term burial and age. Minor pitting and surface irregularities are visible, consistent with ancient bronze corrosion processes. No decorative motifs are present, suggesting a utilitarian or ritual function rather than a purely ornamental one. Condition: Good archaeological condition. Structurally intact with no restorations observed. Typical ancient wear, including surface pitting, mineral accretions, and minor edge irregularities. No active bronze disease detected at the time of cataloguing. Patina appears stable and untouched. Attribution & Dating Notes: Bronze bowls of this type are widely attested across the Near East and Eastern Mediterranean during the Iron Age and early Classical periods. Comparable examples are known from domestic, ceremonial, and offering contexts. The form, weight, and restrained simplicity are consistent with utilitarian bronze vessels produced between the early Iron Age and early Hellenistic period. Provenance: From a private collection; previously acquired on the European art market. *** Customs fees might apply when shipping outside the EU ***
