Ilona Bal (BA in design) graduated in 2011 from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. Since 2015 Ilona is an independent artist aka Grphx. “I have been painting, drawing, creating art for as long as I can remember. The older I got, the clearer it became that I wanted to get more out of my creativity. In 2007 I was admitted to the Willem de Kooning art academy and completed my study graphic design in 2011. After working for several years as a graphic designer in permanent employment, I noticed that I lacked the time to paint. Painting makes me happy and ensures that I can express my ideas and feelings. It was time for a change and in 2015 I took the exciting step to continue as an independent entrepreneur. It was the right decision!​ ​ I prefer to paint with acrylic paint on linen canvases. My work is characterized by bold color combinations and abstract shapes. Nature plays a major role in my work, because I find it fascinating and inspiring how nature constantly changes in color and shape. With my abstract work I hope to evoke beautiful memories, feelings or dreams in others."
