Lithuania Minor is a unique ethnographic region of Lithuania; a land of wind and sands of the lagoon, where songs and stories were ever present in the lives of its people. The historical land of the Baltic peoples between the Pregola River and the lower reaches of the Nemunas River has always existed as a gateway to the world, where different cultures intertwine, and a distinctive spirit prevails. Unique folk songs were born here, along with the region’s rich printing tradition and book smugglers, which helped to preserve the Lithuanian tongue in even the most trying circumstances. Lithuania Minor charms with its unique historical legacy and a lively vision of a bright future. The national side of the coin depicts the shield of the coat of arms, with a moose holding a spear in its forelegs and a shining lighthouse above it. Kurenkahns are on both sides of the shield, and below it appears a quote by Vydūnas: “Spindulys esmi begalinės šviesos” (A ray is the essence of infinite light). The composition is surrounded by the inscriptions “Lietuva” (Lithuania), “Mažoji Lietuva” (Lithuania Minor), the year of issue (2025), and the mintmark of the Lithuanian Mint. The coin’s outer ring bears the 12 stars of the EU flag.
