Offered for auction:
a special set of two antique elmwood chairs, made in the Netherlands and dated between 1775 and 1840.
Both chairs feature an elegant backrest with a horizontal oval opening and vertical slats. The set is often described as a “male and female” pair due to the subtle differences in shape and proportions.
Provenance
The chairs originate from the collection of Museum Rotterdam and will be delivered with the original certificate issued by Stichting MuseumDepotShop (dated 15 August 2022).
Material
Solid elmwood (iep / elm)
Upholstered seat with green velvet fabric
Condition
Considering their age, the chairs are in good and stable condition. They show expected signs of age and use such as small scratches, wear, patina, and minor imperfections in the wood.
The upholstery shows visible age-related wear. It is possible that the fabric has been replaced at some point in the past, however this cannot be confirmed.
Woodworm
Some old woodworm holes may be present, consistent with antique furniture. No active woodworm was observed (no fresh bore dust). It is unknown whether the chairs have been treated in the past.
Restoration
No recent restorations are known. The chairs have not been recently refinished or revarnished.
Shipping
The chairs can be collected or shipped. They will be carefully packed for transport.
