Norway 1000 Kroner – Norges Bank, 1940, Pick 12c, NP 72C, Serial A.0624319 Norwegian 1000 Kroner banknote issued by Norges Bank and dated 1940, serial A.0624319. This is the second-series “Christie” issue, catalogued as Pick P-12c / NP 72C, with the signature of chief cashier G. Meldahl-Nielsen. The 1940 issue had a recorded printing of 60,000 notes. The type measures approximately 216 × 127 mm. The obverse is printed predominantly in violet-brown and features Wilhelm Frimann Koren Christie at left and Admiral Peter Wessel Tordenskiold at right, with the central inscription “NORGES BANK – ET TUSEN KRONER – GULD”. The denomination 1000 appears in all four corners, with the serial number printed vertically in red on both sides of the central field. The reverse uses brown, blue and red printing and is centred on a vignette of Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, surrounded by elaborate guilloche ornamentation. A Viking head appears to the left, while the Norwegian coat of arms and associated heraldic devices appear to the right. The note belongs to Norges Bank’s long-running second banknote series, issued from 1901 until the end of the Second World War. Circulated condition with numerous strong vertical and horizontal folds, general toning and handling wear, softened edges and corners, and several small edge splits associated with the fold lines.
