Octavo, pp xvi, 693, a little age-toned throughout, a few turned corners, one marginal pencil annotation, a couple of very light pencil under-linings, slight loss of the lower corner to page 295/6 (see illustrations for all these), otherwise good and firm in the main text block. The front hinge is badly cracked, but not really weak; the rear hinge is just very slightly cracked. Original cloth, slightly worn at the corners, very lightly rubbed, the spine is slightly dull; the top and bottom of the spine a little pulled and worn. There is a faint signature on the front endpaper of the original owner - F.B. Allen. Interestingly, it is dated 1887 - i.e. before the publication date. Freeman 964.
