Laskarina Pinotsi (known as Bouboulina, after her second husband's surname) was born in 1771 in Constantinople and raised in Spetses. From her two husbands, Dimitrios Giannouzas and Dimitrios Bouboulis, she inherited a huge fortune, which she spent entirely in support of the Struggle.She was one of the few women who were accepted as members of the Philiki Eteria. Immediately after her initiation, she began to buy weapons and ammunition, while she built a ship with 18 cannons, the Agamemnon, the flagship of her fleet. At the same time, she formed and maintained at her own expense a military corps of Spetses.Bouboulina participated with her fleet in the siege of Nafplio, where she later settled on land granted to her by the Greek government in recognition of her services.He also took part in the sieges of Monemvasia and Tripolitsa. However, after the civil war he fell into disfavor because he supported the release of Theodoros Kolokotronis and was exiled to Spetses. There he was killed in 1825 in a family dispute.
