Isabelle Scheltjens has spent countless years practicing to perfect her unique glass fusion technique.

She studied color theory and creates her portraits in a labor-intensive way. Very systematic and detailed, with great attention to detail and depth, shadow and light. The different layers of hand-cut, colorful glass are fused at approximately 800 degrees.

Up close, the viewer sees an abstract representation that seems 'unfinished' - an intriguing play of bright colours. At a distance, the planes flow into each other through optical colour mixing to form a portrait.

About Isabelle Scheltjens:
Isabelle discovered her passion for art at a young age. She studied at the Antwerp SISA.

Inspired by her husband's glass designs, she began working with glass herself, resulting in a portrait of her daughter and further refining her technique in 2014.

Her works have been exhibited worldwide in France, Hong Kong, South Africa, Dubai and New York.

Her pieces, which consist of thousands of pieces of glass, are part of prestigious collections, including those of the King of Morocco and Lotus Bakeries. Professional footballer Keven de Bruyne also bought a portrait of his wife Michèle.

Scheltjens' style is unique. Her work is an instantly recognizable eye-catcher in any space that you will never tire of. Isabelle's glass art requires a great deal of technical craftsmanship. Yet the technique is merely a tool and not a goal in itself. She presents reality as a sea of glass surfaces - confused up close, clear from afar.
