Giulia Couzzi’s passion for Post War and Contemporary Art stems from her childhood. One of her earliest memories is the fascination she felt for a large art history encyclopedia that lived on her bookshelf at home. She would browse with curiosity through the pages dedicated to the Italian Art, exhibiting the works of Lucio Fontana, Alighiero Boetti and Carla Accardi. Perhaps the bigger influence was her paternal grandfather. He collected modern art and she would spend her afternoons observing with curiosity and attention the 19th- and early 20th-century paintings hanging on the walls. It was only when she became an adult that she realised she wanted work in the art market. Naturally, Giulia went on to pursue a career in art, eventually earning a Master’s in Innovation and Organisation of Culture and the Arts from the University of Bologna. She’s worked at auction houses, museums, and galleries–notably Tornabuoni Arte, one of Italy’s leading galleries for old masters, modern and post war art. As gallery director she oversaw the sale and cataloguing of important artworks. Giulia’s knowledge of the art market serves her well at Catawiki. Her expertise has created opportunities for visitors to become acquainted with hard-to-find artworks and pieces. It’s a job that gives her great satisfaction as a true art lover.
