First edition. Atlas volumen only. 58 x 37 cms. Additional lithographic title-page and 97 plates printed on thick paper: 3 colored, 24 tinted and 3 double page, some after calotypes taken by Spackman and Macartney. Binding in twenty century half red leather and marbled paper with gilded title and spine gilt. In good condition, except for the usual foxing spots affecting both title-pages and many of the plates.
"Rare folio álbum dedicated to one of the mayor archeological missions carried out by the British Museum ever. Newton was vice cónsul at the Levant between 1852-59. The archeological mission took place between 1856 to 1859 focused with the excavation of the remains of the mausoleum of Halicarnassus at Bodrum (Turkey). The misión was exponsored by Stratford Canning , the british ambassador at Constantinople. There were two volumes of text accompanying this atlas but are not present here"
