Peter Klashorst (1957-2024) - Faces [2]
Peter Klashorst – Faces – set of two giclées, signed and numbered 14/45 (you will receive a matching set).
Peter Klashorst is a famous and popular Dutch artist.
In 2011, Peter Klashorst gave a face to the senseless bloodbath of the Khmer Rouge by painting and exhibiting the victims at the Tuol Sleng museum (Phnom Penh). The UN organization UNESCO then asked Klashorst to display his work in the genocide museum. Some portraits have been issued in the form of a giclée.
Two of them are included in this auction.
Two digital offset prints on thick, glossy photo paper weighing 230 grams. Size: A3 (42 x 30 cm).
From 2000 onwards, Klashorst lived and worked alternately in Thailand, Cambodia, and various African countries. His time in Cambodia, especially in Phnom Penh, was particularly influential for his artistic development. In 2011, he organized an exhibition at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21), a former prison of the Khmer Rouge. This exhibition consisted of about 50 paintings honoring the victims of the regime and received international attention, including in The New York Times and the International Herald Tribune.
Klashorst's work in Cambodia reflected his involvement with social and political themes. He used his art to draw attention to issues such as oppression, freedom, and the human condition. His paintings were often confrontational and aimed to make the viewer think about these complex topics.
