2004 'Altair' Tinto - Cachapoal Valley - 6 Bottles (0.75L)

Altaïr 2004, an exceptional red wine from Cachapoal Valley, Chile. Brilliant purple-red from rim to center. Delicious bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry jelly, and cherry pie, with a hint of roasted mocha beans, chocolate biscuits, and warm spice notes. Intense and very fine on the palate. The perfect balance is underscored by delicate tannins and crisp acidity. Expressive and powerful right through to the long, velvety finish. Altaïr is named after the brightest star in the sky, the Eagle Star. The company was founded as a partnership between Chileans and Frenchmen, like others in Chile; the most famous being Almaviva Concha y Toro and Baron de Rothschild SA (Mouton-Rothschild). Altaïr's home base is San Pedro, one of Chile's largest wineries, and Dassault, the French aircraft manufacturer that also owns several wineries, including the famous Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé, Château Dassault. The latter was looking for a way into Chile to sell its aircraft. This operation was only moderately successful and also led to Dassault's withdrawal from Altaïr in 2007. Altaïr was designed in the tradition of the great Bordeaux châteaux. They also produce (as is often the case in Bordeaux) a second wine called Sideral. The vineyards are located between 400 and 800 meters above sea level. Vinification is very precise and begins with complete destemming and rigorous selection of the harvested grapes. The wines are fermented in large oak vats and aged for fifteen months in French barrels (50% new). This 2004 was once again produced in collaboration with Dassault, as is clearly indicated on the bottle's label. « Altaïr 2004 An explosion of flavors! A truly great wine! ».
