Conditions for participation

Welcome to DYOC, Catawiki’s very own Drink Your Own Champagne programme. This is a training and engagement initiative designed to help you experience our platform just like our users do. By stepping into the shoes of both buyers and sellers, you will gain first hand insight into the user journey. Along the way, you will help us spot areas to improve, share your feedback, and make the Catawiki experience even better for everyone.

Participation is entirely voluntary, and by doing so, you agree to the following conditions:

1. Personal account use and ownership

You will participate using your own personal Catawiki account, if you don’t have one yet, then please create one using your personal email since you will be acting in your personal capacity. To help ensure the DYOC conditions are followed fairly, personal accounts used in the programme will be registered in advance through the intake form. This is simply for transparency and light-touch monitoring.

Whether you choose to buy first, sell first, or do both, is entirely up to you. If you decide to sell an object, it does not need to be the same one you bought with the DYOC voucher, you can choose any object that fits the experience (and meets our submission guidelines). If you buy an object, it is yours and remains your personal property. If you sell something, you do so as a private seller. Catawiki is not the buyer, owner or seller in this process.

2. Terms of Use apply

You are bound by Catawiki’s Terms of Use, including the Buyer and Seller Terms. These apply fully to your DYOC transactions, just like for any other user. This also means that any disputes, shipping issues, cancellations, or buyer/seller behaviour are governed by our Terms.

3. No liability

Catawiki is not responsible for any financial loss, perceived loss in value, or unexpected experience as part of the buying or selling process. Nor is Catawiki liable for the behaviour of the other users you interact with during the DYOC journey.

4. Vouchers

Voucher are granted at € 100 (hundred Euro) to support the purchase of your object:

The voucher is intended for your personal use as part of the DYOC programme.

Any unused voucher value cannot be carried over or repurposed.

You may need to pay extra for shipping, (custom) fees or taxes if these exceed the value of the voucher. Any such additional costs are your own responsibility and will not be reimbursed by Catawiki.

Vouchers may be considered a taxable benefit under local law. If applicable, any taxes will be borne by Catawiki and not the participant.

5. Community behaviour and tone

You are still representing Catawiki, even when using a personal account. Please treat fellow users with respect and kindness. The Community Guidelines and the User Communication and anti-Harassment Policy continue to apply throughout your interactions.

6. Conflict of interest

Please make sure your DYOC activity does not interfere with your role or responsibilities at Catawiki. All participants are asked to familiarise themselves with our Conflict of Interest Policy before getting started.

For colleagues in Commercial roles (Experts and Sales):

If you are an expert or sales team member, please do not buy or sell objects in the supercluster you work in. This helps us safeguard the independence and objectivity of our curation process.

Normally, and as outlined in our Selling on Catawiki Policy, Experts are not allowed to sell on our online marketplace at all, to ensure impartiality in how we assess and value special objects. For the purpose of DYOC only, Experts and other commercial team members are allowed to sell one object per DYOC edition (so one object for the DYOC 3.1 round now being launched). Please keep this exception in mind and stick to it.

Also, please:

Avoid using any internal, non-public data when making buying or pricing decisions.

Make sure not to mention or hint at your role as an Expert in your listing, photos, or communications, your seller profile is anonymised for a reason.

7. Sharing your experience

Reflecting on and sharing your journey is a key part of DYOC. This is not just a fun experiment, it is a valuable training exercise to help us build empathy with our users and improve the Catawiki experience together.

As part of the programme, all participants are expected to document their experience across both the buying and selling journey. [You will receive access to a dedicated Google Form where you can reflect on the different stages, record your impressions, and share your ideas.]

Please note that this is an essential part of DYOC, completing your reflections as both a buyer and a seller is what makes the programme meaningful and actionable.

You will be invited to:

Indicate what stage of your journey you encountered an issue or a positive experience

Share your highlights and lowlights, take an upload screenshots of your experience

Spot and note down opportunities for improvement

This input helps us better understand what our users go through - from friction points to moments of delight - and turn those insights into real improvements.

If you have questions or uncertainties, feel free to reach out in the #DYOC Slack channel.

Cheers and happy journeying,

The DYOC team🥂
