My passion for tribal art dates back fifteen years and is intimately linked to my enthusiasm for travel and the discovery of the other, strange people with so different customs. These trips to the Asian, African or American continents had textile as their common thread. Following a trip to Indonesia and a stay as a cooperative in Ivory Coast, I started from the hypothesis that African loincloths were of Indonesian origin or in other words that the African Wax Block Prints came from the Javanese batiks. For different reasons linked to colonization and colonial trading posts, these African fabrics are indeed a transformation and adaptation of the batiks of the Insulinde. This research work was formalized by obtaining a DEA in Anthropology. Following this first study, I became interested in another technique for producing textile decorations by reserve; ikat and this in the Sunda Islands in Indonesia (Sumba, Florès and Timor). Many other study missions in South East Asia followed and allowed me to discover Indonesian tribal art. I became interested in primitive African art afterwards during stays for my work in Africa. My first collectibles were therefore textiles and my interest is above all on ethnographic objects, unlike galleries which consider these objects from an artistic point of view. Other trips to other continents and in contact with other cultures followed and allowed me to complete my inventory of textile techniques practiced in isolated regions of the World. Recently, we discovered in situ the famous textiles of Paracas while visiting Peru and Bolivia. In the near future, we will walk the Silk Roads to discover the wonderful Ikats of Adras, the Suzanis and carpets of the Caucasus. Our specialty is and will remain tribal textiles from different isolated regions of the vast world. But our enthusiasm spilled over statuary, masks, terracotta, weapons or ethnographic objects. Currently, we present a collection of ethnographic furniture mainly from Africa. We are also very open to contemporary art and believe that there is a harmony between certain pieces of contemporary art and others of tribal art. Depending on the tastes and preferences of everyone, we offer the layout and decoration of interiors in a tribal style. In addition, we consider that contemporary art holds its place alongside tribal art in an interior layout. Textiles obviously take pride of place in this style of decoration. These textiles which were not designed to decorate our interiors do not always have the size required for a well-defined use. But the use that we grant them is close to that of a master painting which we will call a weaver painting. We can inform you when it meets our area of expertise, we will provide you as much as possible with the necessary articles and bibliographical references. In summary, we seek to share with you our unpretentious passion and wish to communicate it to you so that you become an enlightened amateur then an inveterate collector when you have matured your choices.
