Presented for auction by Second Vintage

This is a remarkable example of the Seiko Lord Marvel, a model line historically significant for bringing high-end horology and elegant design to the Japanese market. Featuring the robust manual-wind caliber 5740A and a beautifully preserved caseback with the iconic Seahorse logo, this timepiece exudes 1960s sophistication and remains a favorite among vintage enthusiasts.

Brand: Seiko
Model: Lord Marvel
Reference Number: 5740-0010
Serial Number: 6206881
Movement: Manual Wind Caliber 5740A
Dial: Silver sunburst with applied indices
Case Size: 35 mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Stainless Steel
Production Year: 1966
Condition: Stunning vintage condition, showing timegrapher results of +30s to +36s/day which indicates a healthy movement.

Dial and Hands
The silver sunburst dial is in exceptional condition, preserving a bright and crisp finish that catches the light beautifully. It features polished, faceted steel baton hour markers that are applied to the surface, with a double marker at the 12 o'clock position. The sharp dauphine hands are polished to a mirror finish, complementing the indices perfectly. All text, including the distinctive Lord Marvel script and Diashock 23 Jewels designation, remains sharp and legible without visible spotting or patina.

Case and Crystal
Crafted from stainless steel, the case retains its original sharp lines and defined chamfers on the lugs, showcasing the quality of Seiko's mid-century manufacturing. The caseback is a particular highlight, featuring a deeply embossed and clearly visible Seahorse logo along with the model and serial numbers, which are often worn down on examples of this age. The acrylic crystal is clear and free from distracting marks, offering an unobstructed view of the dial.

Movement
Powering the watch is the manual wind Seiko Caliber 5740A, a robust 23-jewel movement known for its reliability and durability. The movement plates appear clean and well-maintained in the photographs, bearing the correct Seiko engravings. This mechanism represents the reliable 5740 architecture that served as a foundation for Seiko's precision mechanical watches of the era.

Strap
The watch is fitted with a new burgundy leather strap featuring contrasting gold-tone stitching that complements the vintage aesthetic of the piece. It is secured by a steel pin buckle and feels supple, providing a comfortable fit and a stylish contrast to the silver dial.

Condition
This timepiece is in stunning vintage condition, particularly considering its production in the mid-1960s. The dial is virtually flawless, and the case shows only very minor signs of handling while retaining its architectural integrity. The Seahorse engraving on the back is remarkably well-preserved, making this a collector-grade example.

Dimensions
The case measures 35 mm in diameter excluding the crown, a classic size that offers a refined and unobtrusive presence on the wrist, perfectly suited for dress or daily wear.

Remarks
This specific example stands out due to the incredible preservation of the caseback engraving and the pristine nature of the dial. The Lord Marvel series holds a special place in collecting circles as the testing ground for Seiko's highest precision standards, and finding one in this condition is becoming increasingly difficult.

History
The Seiko Lord Marvel line was introduced in the late 1950s and served as the brand's luxury flagship before the arrival of Grand Seiko. It was within this line that Seiko demonstrated its ability to create high-quality, beautifully finished movements and cases. The 5740 series movements are celebrated for their durability and historical importance in Seiko's journey toward chronometric excellence.
