A charming Italian landscape, depicting figures in clothing inspired on the antiquity engaging with each other in a pastoral landscape. An antique Roman temple in the background and an idyllic village. A huge mountain; possibly the Vesuvius can been seen in the upper right corner. The foliage on the painting is painted in a fine hand and the colors, especially of the garments are vivid. The painting has a fine craquelure. This painting is mostost likely painted for Grand Tour tourist circa 1800. The painting is placed in a fine gilt frame from the 19th century.
