Aquincum - Escultura, Figurine by Jenő Hanzély (1919–2000) – “Nude Woman Combing Her Hair” - 22.5 cm - Porcelana - 1940

Aquincum – Figurine by Jenő Hanzély (1919–2000) – “Nude Woman Combing Her Hair” – 22.5 cm – Porcelain – ca. 1940 Elegant Art Deco–style erotic figurine designed by the Hungarian ceramic artist and applied artist Jenő Hanzély (1919–2000). Hanzély later became a designer at the famous Herend Porcelain Manufactory from 1979 onwards and received several national awards, including the Order of Merit of the Hungarian People’s Republic. In 1958 he was awarded a certificate of distinction at the Brussels World’s Fair (Expo '58). This early figurine was produced by the Aquincum Porcelain Factory in Budapest, founded in 1854 by Tivadar Hüttl. Before 1948, Aquincum marked its works with the blue eagle and “Budapest” stamp—these early pieces are highly sought after by collectors for their quality and elegant style. The figure depicts a nude woman in a graceful pose, raising one arm as she combs her long hair. Beautifully hand-painted details and refined Art Deco proportions give the piece a timeless sense of beauty.
