A Japanese merchant chest featuring an upper drawer and a lower compartment with sliding doors. On the right side, a square door conceals four stacked drawers.
The piece is crafted from dark wood with visible grain and is enriched with elaborate iron hardware, including plates, hinges, locks, and handles, some decorated with geometric and symbolic motifs.
The sides are fitted with iron carrying handles, while metal corner fittings reinforce and protect the structure, suggesting an original function also related to mobility.
Tansu are traditional Japanese storage chests, valued today not only for their functional design but also as refined examples of craftsmanship that preserve the natural patina and quiet elegance of time.
---The tansu is in good condition, with minor wear of wood consistent with age and use. Please refer to the pictures for further details.
The item will be carefully packed and shipped via DHL or FedEx, accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity issued by Mastromauro Japanese art gallery based in Milan, Italy.
