Tanomura Shosai (1845-1909) was a painter from active in the Meiji period. He was born in 1845. A native of Harima (Hyogo Prefecture). He studied literati painting under his adoptive father, Tanomura Chokunyu. He also excelled in martial arts and served the lord of the Oka domain in Bungo (Oita Prefecture). After the Meiji Restoration, he spent time in Osaka and Kyoto. He died on December 31, 1909, at the age of 65.
With original signed and sealed tomobako.
