Billon Tetradrachm, Year 11 = AD 64/65
Certified by NGC – VF grade, Strike 4/5, Surface 4/5
Weight: 13.10 g
A well-centred and attractive Alexandrian tetradrachm of Nero, struck in Year 11 of his reign. The obverse shows a clear and expressive portrait of Nero, typical of the Alexandrian provincial style. The reverse depicts Poppaea Sabina, the emperor’s second wife, with an elegant and highly recognisable hairstyle – a detail particularly sought after by collectors of Roman provincial coinage.
The surface quality is excellent for the type, with natural billon patination and no corrosion. Both portraits are well defined, and the strike quality (4/5) is significantly above the average for this series. The piece is housed in an NGC Ancients slab, which guarantees authenticity and protects long-term conservation.
A desirable example, fully certified and ready for an advanced collection of Roman provincial coinage.
NGC certification number: 8358740-013
(Verification available on NGC website.)
Graded by NGC: VF, Strike 4/5, Surface 4/5.
Natural patina, excellent surfaces for the type.
This type is increasingly appreciated among collectors of Alexandrian coinage. Coins featuring Poppaea Sabina are in high demand and rarely appear in this condition with third-party grading.
