Set of 4 Antique Japanese Shunga Prints – Late Edo to Meiji Period (One Incomplete Design) - other - Japón - Periodo Meiji (1868 -1912) (Sin precio de reserva)
This lot consists of four antique Japanese shunga prints, dating to the late Edo to early Meiji period (19th century).
Shunga is a historically significant genre of Japanese ukiyo-e, produced for private appreciation and widely collected during the Edo period.
Composition of the set
• One design (top print) was originally issued as a left-and-right diptych.
In this set, only one side of that original pair is present, the matching sheet is missing.
• The remaining two designs (two prints) are complete single-sheet compositions.
Such incomplete survival is common for shunga prints, which were often privately circulated and separated over time.
Artistic & technical details
The prints show expressive compositions with simplified facial features and a strong use of traditional pigments, particularly red and indigo.
The printing technique, pigments, and aged washi paper strongly suggest original antique works, rather than modern reproductions.
No artist signature or publisher’s seal is visible, which is typical for privately circulated shunga of this period.
