Large Antique Butterfly Display Case – Exotic Species, Solid Wood Backing, late 19th / early 20th century Large antique entomological display case featuring a decorative arrangement of exotic butterflies and moths, dating to the late 19th / early 20th century (circa 1880–1920). The specimens are presented in a decorative composition, rather than a scientific reference layout, which was typical for private collections, salons and curiosity cabinets of the period. A variety of species is shown, likely originating from Africa, Asia and South America, including several larger moths (Saturniidae-type) used as visual focal points. The case is constructed with a solid wooden frame and a solid wooden back panel, confirming early, non-industrial manufacture. Original mounting pins, wires and botanical elements are still present, consistent with period entomological display techniques. This is an authentic historical display, not a modern souvenir or reproduction. Material Natural butterfly and moth specimens Wood (frame and solid back panel) Glass front Metal mounting hardware Period Late 19th – early 20th century Dimensions 60 × 36 × 7 cm Condition consistent with age and long-term display. Several specimens show wing damage, losses, fading and natural fragility. Dust, minor internal debris and signs of age are present. Frame, glass and back panel show age-related wear and patina. No restoration has been attempted. The condition is honest and original, supporting the authenticity of the display. CITES / Legal Notice This is an antique entomological display with specimens mounted long before modern wildlife protection regulations. Offered and sold as a historical decorative object. The buyer is responsible for checking and complying with local import regulations.
