Mask crest Boulou, the gorilla in the spotlight in this mask of African art.
It is a constant in Boulou art where the primate occupies a primary source of inspiration. Located in the border area between Cameroon and Gabon, the Bulu are part of the Fang.Like the Fang of South Cameroon famous for their large white masks, the Bulu also practiced the Ngil ritual to fight witchcraft and poisoning.
Ngi is the gorilla, a fearsome animal to which the applicant identifies after his acceptance into the secret society. Their monkey statues mark by the invention of round and simple shapes, and by great accuracy in observing the attitude of the animal.
