Dogon - Mali

This mask, attributed to the Dogon, is in a style typically associated with the Mossi and
the Bobo. It is believed that this type of mask represents a hare, the slightly
sloping upper part of which forms the ears. Carved from soft wood, the ‘ears’ form an elegant and graceful
curve that ends at the nose, and the alternating red and black decoration displays a marked sensitivity
to form and figure.
