Description of the artwork:
This neoclassical-inspired figurative artwork revisits with great dramatic intensity the famous myth of Icarus, the man who wanted to fly with wings of wax and feathers but flew too close to the sun. The composition features the god Hermes (recognizable by his winged helmet and caduceus), kneeling with solemn compassion beside the lifeless body of young Icarus, washed ashore on a rocky beach. The details of melted golden wax and scattered feathers bear witness to the tragic fall into the dark waters of the Aegean Sea in the background. The artwork shines objectively through its mastery of chiaroscuro and classical anatomy, creating a poignant tension between divine beauty and human fragility.
Le Yack, an emerging French pop and street artist. Alexandre Pelletier, alias Le Yack, was born in Tours in 1972. During his studies, he joined the École Supérieure d'Art et de Design (ESAD) in Orléans. He is an art director in publishing and the web. Instagram @leyack45. He is exhibited in a network of around forty galleries across France, Germany, Belgium, and the United States. Inspired by classic and modern painting, Le Yack brings a contemporary perspective to his creations by incorporating strong narrative elements.
The interplay of dramatic lighting and mythological symbolism in this piece offers a timeless reflection on human ambition and its inevitable limits.
