Mariska was born in Suriname, South America. From origin Surinamese, Indonesian, African, and Dutch origin, she grew up in the Netherlands. Growing up in beautiful Vermeer city - Delft, living in Rembrandt country the Netherlands, got in touch with Venice for an assignment for a perfume brand and was deeply touched by Venice baroque art, architecture and history. All these influences in her life, inspired her. Mariska began incorporating these inspirations into her own work, with influences from her life and existence.
Mariska spends a lot of time carefully constructing her sets, which also involves her other talents. She sketches with charcoal, works with gold, textiles, and is an excellent photo manipulator. All of her talents come together in every piece of work she creates.
Mariska primarily photographs women, including bold women in glamorous, mysterious, and beautiful settings, with soft skin tones and a touch of fantasy in a sensual atmosphere, combined with the sensitivity of the old masters. The women she photographs seem unaware of their surroundings but remain irresistibly dominant.
She photographs the human figure in human emotions. She speaks in a universal language we all understand, no matter where in this world we live in.
Mariska is a global artist and has exhibited internationally on multiple occasions. In a short period, she has won several well-known international awards (including the PX3 Prix de la Photographie de Paris, first place gold, in the full category of professional fine arts). In 2016, she was nominated as an ambassador for tolerance.
