Few faces are more instantly recognisable to British audiences than Sid James. Best remembered as the irrepressible star of the legendary Carry On films, James became one of Britain's most beloved comic actors, appearing in nineteen films in the series and delighting generations with his unmistakable gravelly laugh, mischievous grin and larger-than-life screen presence. His enduring popularity has made him one of the defining figures of post-war British cinema.
