Telescopio - 1800-1850 - Reino Unido

Antique all-brass multi-draw pocket telescope, dating from approximately the first half to the middle of the 19th century.

A particularly attractive early optical instrument with a compact telescopic construction. When closed, the telescope measures only approximately 14 cm, while the multiple brass draw tubes extend it to an impressive 46 cm.

The telescope is constructed entirely in brass and has developed an attractive, naturally aged surface with visible traces of use and patination consistent with its considerable age. The different sections, finely ribbed collars and characteristic early construction give the instrument a particularly authentic appearance.

Importantly, the telescope is functional. The original optical elements are present and the lenses provide a clear and usable image. The original protective lens shutter is also still present and opens and closes correctly.

An interesting feature of the construction is that one of the central draw-tube sections can be completely withdrawn when pulled to its maximum extension. Close examination indicates that this is part of the original construction rather than a later break or modification. The section can be inserted again normally and the telescope functions as intended.

The telescope can be displayed in several stages of extension, ranging from its very compact closed position to its full length. This makes it particularly attractive not only as a historical optical instrument but also as a decorative collector’s object.

Condition:
Very good antique condition considering its age. Fully functional, with original lenses and working protective shutter. The brass shows natural patina, fine scratches, small marks and normal traces of age and use. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
