Descripción

Elegante par de sillas antiguas J. & J. Kohn, procedentes de la histórica producción vienesa de muebles en madera curvada.

Las sillas presentan una estructura de madera curvada, con acabado en tonalidad marrón-caoba y una atractiva pátina natural desarrollada con el paso del tiempo. El diseño es particularmente decorativo y refinado, con respaldos dibujados y esculpidos, enriquecidos con motivos geométricos y florales.

Los asientos circulares se caracterizan por una decorazione en abanico en relieve, elemento que confiere a las sillas una apariencia muy elaborada. La estructura se completa con elegantes aros y travesaños curvados en la parte inferior, típicos de la tradición vienesa del bentwood.

En el lateral inferior de una de las sillas es visible una etiqueta original J. & J. Kohn, importante elemento de identificación. La manufactura J. & J. Condiciones

Las sillas se encuentran en buenas condiciones vintage para su edad, con evidentes signos de tiempo y uso.

Hay arañazos, pequeñas abrasiones, variaciones del tono de la madera, desgaste del acabado y pequeños defectos superficiales, todos coherentes con la edad de los objetos.

En la madera también son visibles numerosos pequeños agujeros atribuibles a una antigua presencia de termitas. Se recomienda, por tanto, un eventual tratamiento preventivo antifouler antes de la conservación prolongada.

La estructura presenta el aspecto vivido típico de muebles de más de un siglo y conserva una bonita pátina original.

Las fotografías muestran detalladamente tanto los elementos decorativos como la marca, la parte trasera y la parte inferior de las sillas y deben considerarse parte integral de la descripción.

Pair of J. & J. Kohn Chairs – Vienna, Late 19th / Early 20th Century

Elegant pair of antique J. & J. Kohn chairs, from the historic Viennese bentwood furniture tradition.

The chairs feature beautifully curved wooden frames with a warm brown-mahogany finish and an attractive natural patina developed through age and use. The backrests are particularly decorative, with shaped and carved panels featuring geometric and floral motifs.

The round seats display an attractive raised fan-shaped decoration, giving the chairs a distinctive and refined appearance. The lower structure is completed by elegant curved rings and stretchers, characteristic of the Viennese bentwood tradition.

Manufacturer and label

An original J. & J. Kohn paper label is visible underneath one of the chairs, providing an important element for identification. J. & J. Kohn of Vienna was a major manufacturer of bentwood furniture and produced numerous chair designs during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Museum records, including the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, document J. & J. Kohn bentwood chairs dating to around 1898.

Condition

The chairs are in good vintage condition considering their age, with visible signs of age and use.

There are scratches, minor abrasions, variations in colour, wear to the finish and small surface imperfections, consistent with their age.

Several small holes consistent with previous woodworm activity are visible in the wood. Preventive woodworm treatment is recommended before long-term storage.

The chairs retain a beautiful aged patina and the authentic character of historic Viennese furniture.
