Junghans Westminster Chime Mantel Clock – Movement 160 – Germany – c. 1920s

Beautiful and substantial antique Junghans Westminster Chime mantel clock, manufactured in Schramberg, Württemberg, Germany, dating from approximately the 1920s.

The clock is fitted with the well-known Junghans movement 160, bearing the characteristic Junghans eight-pointed star trademark and the Württemberg marking.

It features a mechanical 8-day, three-train pendulum movement with Westminster chime. The striking mechanism operates on a set of four metal gong rods, producing the characteristic Westminster melody and hour strike.

The clock is housed in an attractive dark wooden case with a richly carved front. The case features decorative floral and fruit motifs, a beaded surround around the dial and an elegant shaped design typical of the period.

The silver-coloured dial has large black Arabic numerals, with an additional 13–24 hour scale. The clock has three winding points corresponding with the time, chime and striking trains.

The clock is accompanied by its Junghans winding key, which also bears the Junghans star trademark, and its pendulum.
