The subject matter was inspired by the artist's own experience of imprisonment by the Gestapo in 1937. A dark, dramatic, and oppressive social and political satire. The artist combines detailed realism with grotesque, allegorical, and surrealist elements to criticize power, dehumanization, and 20th-century German society. Magnificent.

In very good condition, with some signs of handling visible in the photographs.
