Descripción del vendedor
A striking sculptural vase attributed to the French sculptor and designer Philippe Jean (1931–1987), dating from around 1970.
The piece presents the distinctive organic, ovoid form associated with Philippe Jean’s experimental metalwork of the 1970s, with a broad body, narrow neck and pronounced flared rim.
The vase is constructed in cast aluminium with an integrated contrasting bronze element, creating a characteristic dual-metal composition. The bronze section extends vertically through the neck and into the body, forming an irregular geometric transition between the two metals. The combination of the rough, granular cast surface and the warmer bronze tones gives the object a strong sculptural and Brutalist character.
Standing approximately 32 cm high and weighing approximately 4.35 kg, the vase has a substantial presence and considerable weight for its size. Its proportions and construction closely correspond to documented Philippe Jean dual-metal vessels from the 1970s, including examples measuring approximately 32–33 cm in height.
The surface retains an attractive aged patina, with natural variations in colour and texture resulting from age and oxidation. These characteristics contribute to its authentic vintage appearance and should be considered part of the object’s character.
