Sarmatians (Late 3rd - Early 4th centuries AD) – Rare Stylized Coin Pendant with Star and Crescent

An exceptional and historically fascinating piece from the Migration Period! This item is a Sarmatian pendant (16.5mm, 1.6 g) dating back to the late 3rd to early 4th centuries AD. Nomadic tribes, such as the Sarmatians, frequently used coins or coin-like objects as jewelry, amulets, and status symbols.

The obverse features a highly stylized, bareheaded, and cuirassed male bust facing left—a fascinating "barbarous" imitation of contemporary Roman imperial portraiture, reinterpreted through the artistic lens of nomadic metalworkers. The reverse displays a classic and powerful ancient celestial motif: a star above a crescent, likely serving as a protective amulet for its wearer.

A truly remarkable piece of early medieval/ancient nomadic history, perfect for collectors of migration period items and ancient jewelry. Please examine the photos carefully to appreciate its unique style and condition.
