Países Bajos, Utrecht Duit 1764 (Sin precio de reserva)

1764 VOC Duit – Utrecht – Dutch East Indies – NGC Certified Genuine

A genuine 1764 VOC duit attributed to Utrecht and professionally authenticated and encapsulated by NGC.

The coin features the iconic intertwined VOC monogram of the Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie, better known as the Dutch East India Company. The date 1764 appears beneath the monogram, placing this piece in the mid-18th century during the mature period of VOC commercial expansion.

Founded in 1602, the VOC became one of the most influential trading organizations of the early modern era. Its maritime network connected the Netherlands with southern Africa, India, Ceylon, Southeast Asia, China, Japan and the Indonesian archipelago. Through this network, the company traded spices, textiles, tea, coffee, porcelain and many other valuable commodities.

Copper duits such as this were practical small-denomination coins used in everyday commerce. They formed part of the monetary system associated with the Dutch East Indies and other territories connected to VOC trade. Unlike large silver or gold coins, these copper issues represent the daily economic side of colonial and maritime activity.

This example is attributed to Utrecht, one of the most important historic minting centers in the Netherlands. Utrecht played a major role in Dutch coin production for centuries, and its VOC-related issues are an important area of interest within Dutch colonial and provincial numismatics.

The year 1764 places this coin more than 160 years after the founding of the VOC. By this period, the company maintained an extensive network of trading posts, warehouses, administrative centers and shipping routes throughout Asia.

The VOC monogram remains identifiable on the coin, while the surfaces show heavy circulation, dark brown patination, oxidation and age-related wear. The overall appearance reflects the considerable age and historical use of this original copper piece.

This coin has been authenticated by NGC and is designated GENUINE under certification number 8447939-007.
