In Deep Waters, I question the scale of the obstacles we create for ourselves through my characteristic deadpan irony. A swimmer prepares to dive while a second figure carefully fills a shallow dish with water, transforming a trivial situation into a monumental challenge. The image draws on the familiar expression of being “in deep water,” while also echoing the idea of drowning in a glass of water — making a situation seem far more difficult than it really is. Inspired by the painterly qualities of Renaissance figurative painting, the work was photographed entirely in my studio using only elements physically captured by my camera.

Elena Paraskeva's work is held in institutional and corporate collections, including the Public Art Department of Sweden (Västra Götaland Government), Boston Hospital, USA (major 500 cm installation at the entrance to the Children's Cancer Wing), Australian National University, Thalassa Museum, Affinity (Serif), and other institutional and corporate collections.

Her work has been exhibited at the EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT in Brussels, as well as at major biennales (such as the Florence Biennale) and galleries in NYC, Paris, Tokyo, London, Dubai, Sao Paolo (Brazil), Vienna, Barcelona, Munich, Kuala Lumpur, Frankfurt, Málaga, Linz, Graz, Siena etc.

In 2026 her work was selected to be awarded/exhibited by two photography legends, Christopher Morris (the acclaimed photographer who spent 30 years with TIME Magazine, including nine years covering the White House) and Magnum photographer Alec Soth widely regarded as one of the most influential living photographers.

She has been named International Photographer of the Year (2024 / 2023 / 2021 / 2018) by four different international photographic societies.

She has received international recognition and major awards from Hasselblad Masters, World Masters of Photography, LensCulture, Aesthetica, Prix de la Photographie Paris, International Photography Awards (IPA), Neutral Density Awards, and many others.

Since 2021, she has served as a juror for the FLORIDA MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTS—judging alongside curators from Fotografiska Museum and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography— and as a judge for several international photography competitions each year. She is also a former Adobe instructor and ambassador.

Her photographs have been published in Smithsonian Magazine, The Guardian (UK & Australia), The Times, Vogue.it, Aesthetica, LensCulture, PDN, Photography Masterclass, and numerous other international publications.
