Mosaico romano Thyche Goddess Mosaic, siglo I–II d.C., en muy buen estado, teselas de piedra, mármol y vidrio, medidas 188 × 157 cm (sin montar 175 × 150 cm).

Mosaic: Rome, 1st-2nd centuries AD.

Tesserae of stone, marble and glass.
Measurements: 188 x 157 cm. Unmounted in the restoration mortar it measures 175 x 150 cm
Condition: Excellent, wear and loss of some tiles, as is normal for this type of piece.
Provenance: J.FORET Collection since 2016. Acquired through inheritance from his father J.FORET USSIA, in his possession since 1970.
Ancient Roman mosaic, dated to the 1st-2nd century AD. It is in cela that represents a mythological scene of the navy, characterised by its symbolique and its elaborate composition. At the extreme, it is distinguished by the important figure of Tyche (Fortuna), divinity associated with destiny and prosperity, represented by an architectural structure. They are serene action and introspective expression confident in the image with a character of solitude and divine transcendence.
To his right, an Eros simultaneously supports a length or a center in the middle of an aquatic scene, from where emerges a nude female figure, perhaps a black woman or a sea nymph.The undulations of the sea are proposed thanks to a use of colored lines and a chromatic palette that combines earthy tones, greens and blues, des resources that contribute to evoque the dynamism and the fluidity of the aquatic element.
The execution technique reveals an outstanding domain of musical work, with refined usage of shading and the model for donner of volume and naturalism of figures. Such qualities are typical of the Roman workshops of high artistic level, active in the main urban centers of the Empire.It has the same relationship with the mosaic in the House of Aion at Nea Pafos (Cyprus) and depicts Casiopea and a black woman.
Remarks: The piece comprises a Spanish Export License in 2020 (Passport for the European Union). At the moment of sale, you request the name of the seller. The process is late in the last two weeks.
