Reloj de pared de la Selva Negra - Antiguo - Roble - 1910-1920
Antique clock. Made of oak and executed in the characteristic Black Forest style. Decorated with openwork carving with three-dimensional images of various flowers. The lower part is decorated with an image of curtain tassels. Switzerland, late 19th - early 20th century.
Wood turner Christian Fischer from the Swiss city of Brienz produced carved animal figures for sale to tourists. The Black Forest style soon gained popularity, and Fischer began to teach local craftsmen this art. Characteristic features of the style are the use of various animals in the plots of the works, especially bears. Objects are also decorated with plants and foliage.
By the beginning of the 20th century, the number of wood carvers in the Black Forest style had grown. Local specialised schools began to appear, one of which even contained its own zoo with animals for the convenience of craftsmen and students.
