Ikkyū-ji Temple (一休寺) - Ido Masao 井堂雅夫 (1945-2016) - Japón (Sin Precio de Reserva)

Item Description: This exquisite woodblock print by renowned artist Masao Ido (井堂雅夫) is part of his celebrated "100 Views of Kyoto" series (京都百景), specifically from the subseries "Ten Views of Kyoto Prefecture" (京都府十景). The artwork captures the serene beauty of Ikkyū-ji Temple (一休寺) in Kyōtanabe, Kyoto Prefecture, during the vibrant autumn season. Seen from within the temple gate, the composition leads the viewer’s eye along a stone path flanked by fiery red and golden-yellow maple trees. A traditional water basin sits to the left, enhancing the tranquil temple atmosphere. The bold yet delicate color contrasts and the masterful composition reflect Ido’s distinctive style, portraying the harmony of seasonal change within traditional Japanese architecture. Artist's Comment: Ikkyu Temple In Kyotanabe City stands Shuon-an, the temple of the monk Ikkyu, famed for his wit. Ikkyu is said to have spent the latter half of his life here. While the temple garden also captivated me, this time I wanted to depict the beautiful approach path adorned with autumn leaves. By placing the gate in the foreground, it served as a frame. The approach stretches straight upward toward the sky, like a tunnel of autumn leaves. The maple trees cast their shadows. With the distant mountains as a borrowed landscape, the large trees seem to welcome me. I felt as if I were being led into an unknown world. Size: Approximately 36 cm × 26 cm Artist Profile: Masao Ido (1945–2016) was a highly respected Japanese woodblock printmaker best known for his serene landscape prints of Kyoto and Nara. A master in the modern shin-hanga tradition, he studied under Koho Nishikawa and was associated with the Kyoto Printmaking Institute. His works are characterized by gentle color gradations, clean compositions, and a deep sense of calm and nostalgia. Ido exhibited internationally and influenced many younger artists in the field of traditional Japanese printmaking. **PLEASE NOTE** Shipping Information: Items are shipped from Japan.
