The scene combines two celebratory kabuki and dance themes. "Imayo Matsunokotobuki" refers to a festive performance incorporating the motif of the pine tree, a symbol of longevity, resilience, and good fortune, often used in songs or dances to celebrate prosperity. "Kinpei Daikoku" centres on Daikokuten, one of the Seven Lucky Gods, associated with wealth and abundance, here depicted with a golden vessel representing treasure and blessings. Together, the triptych presents a jubilant stage composition filled with auspicious symbolism. Utagawa Toyokuni IV was active from the late Edo into the early Meiji era. A pupil of Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III), he initially worked under the name Utagawa Kunimasa II, later becoming Kunisada II after marrying Kunisada’s daughter in 1850. Around 1870, he adopted the name Toyokuni IV, continuing the Utagawa school’s legacy of vibrant kabuki and bijin-ga prints. The sheets show signs of age, including rubbing, foxing, creases, folds, small tears, wormholes, and an old smell. Please refer to the photos for a detailed condition assessment.
