Excellent quality Japanese traditional Wooden sculptured Noh mask of Okina翁 with meticulous workmanship, made by Musō Ganryū無双巌流, artist name was carved on the backside of the mask. The beard are made of rabbit hair.
A mask of an old man with a smile. It is used in the Okina-mai dance to celebrate good fortune, such as bountiful harvests and the fulfillment of wishes. The origins of the Okina-mai dance date back to the end of the Heian period, and it is considered the source of the development of Noh. The technique of separating the top and bottom half of the mouth and connecting them with a string was influenced by Bugaku masks.
