Byōbu plegable (biombo) - Un biombo de seis paneles con fondo de plata (屏風) que representa escenas del cuento de Genji. - Japón - Período Meiji (finales del siglo XIX)
A six-panel screen (屏風, byōbu) with a silver-leaf and light-pigment ground on paper, depicting episodes from the Genji monogatari (源氏物語), the celebrated novel of the Heian period.
The scenes unfold across hilly landscapes, aristocratic residences, and figures immersed in refined and contemplative atmospheres, rendered through the typical “cloud” structure that separates and connects the various narrative episodes.
The panels are framed by two elegant silk borders, while a lacquered wooden frame completes and protects the screen.
The screen can also be easily mounted on a wall or used as a room divider.
Byōbu (屏風), literally “wind protection screens,” are traditional Japanese folding screens originally created to divide spaces and today appreciated above all as striking wall-mounted paintings.
---The byobu is in good condition, with minor wear consistent with age. Slight pigment wear and a restored cut in the lower section between the first and second panels. Lacquered wooden frame and metal fittings of a later date. Please refer to the pictures for further details.
The item will be carefully packed and shipped via DHL or FedEx, accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity issued by Mastromauro Japanese art gallery based in Milan, Italy.
