Female figure represented standing in solemn position with the body erect, arms slightly separated from the body and hands open in offering or praying position. She appears richly dressed with ceremonial headdress of "canutillos", large disc earrings, braided vegetal necklace with large central bead and tunic adorned with horizontal bands and tied with a belt or rope with frontal knot; in the arms she also carries ceremonial bracelets. It is made of orange-brown terracotta, brown paint and traces of bitumen. For the type of clothing and posture it could be a tribal priestess. With custom woodden stand. Remojadas is the name used to designate a culture, an archaeological site and an artistic style developed in the Mexican state of Veracruz, in the Gulf of Mexico, within the Culture of Central Veracruz. It is especially known for its pottery and hollow figurines, thousands of which have been found in various locations, including burial mounds and dumps. These figurines show gods, rulers and peasants, as well as animals of all kinds. Particularly noteworthy are the so-called smiling ones, childlike representations of a joyful appearance. Many of the figurines from this period function as flutes, whistles and ocarinas, and seem to have had ritual significance. The piece includes Thermoluminescence Test. Dimensions: 50,50 cm. Condition: Profesionally restored from original fragments ( see pictures ). Good overall condition. Provenance: - Galerie de Sfinx, Amsterdam - Private Collection, Genève (acquired at Galerie de Sfinx in 1978( invoice included ) - Private collection, Vaduz (acquired in 2006) Important: Due to Summer holidays, Items sold at the end of July or August will be sent in September. Notes: The Ministry of Culture from Spain asks all sellers for invoices or other documentation able to prove the legality of each item before providing an import or export license. - The piece includes authenticity certificate. The piece is in process of obtaining Spanish Export License ( Passport for European Union). This process can take between 2 and 4 weeks. - If the piece goes outside the European Union a new export license will be requested by us, This process can take beteen 1 and 2 months. According to Spanish legislation, items sent outside the European Union are subject to export taxes and will be added to the invoice, at the buyer's expense. These export fees are fixed on the final auction price and the tax rate is not applied directly on the total value of the item to be exported, but rather the different percentages by sections are applied to it: - Up to 6,000 euros: 5%./ From 6.001 to 60.000 euros: 10%. - Shipped with Insurance.
