After studying metal casting at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, he graduated in 1938 with top honors. Following military service, he became active in postwar Japanese metal art, exhibiting regularly at Nitten and winning major awards such as the Asakura Prize, the Minister of Education Award, and the Japan Art Academy Award. He taught at Tokyo University of the Arts, founded several craft organizations, and created many public monuments including “Bridge of Four Islands” at Cape Nosappu. Honored with the Order of Culture (1991) and Germany’s Order of Merit (1982), he was also named Honorary Citizen of Kanazawa and Kamakura. Hasuda died in 2010 at age 94.
