Tsumeb is one of the most mythic localities for the mineral collector. There, the unlikely combination of several geological factors made possible the occurrence of a wide variety of finely crystallized mineral species, to such and extent that this deposit set the highest international standards for several species over the second half of the last century.
Among these, azurite is undoubtedly among the greatest classics, as Tsumeb is ranked among the most iconic localities for this species!
Here is a beautiful tall specimen of azurite displaying two big intergrown crystals, the main one being 8.5 cm in length!
The surfaces are very lustrous and you can see the royal blue internal colour as light hits the crystals.
Note the combination with green secondary minerals (possibly bayldonite) and massive tennantite in the matrix.
Ex coll. Bordes.
Mr Bordes was a collector from Lourdes (France), active from the 1950s to around 2005. A hard worker, he successfully managed and expanded his family's public works business during the post-WWII reconstruction period. He focused on classic species and localities from Europe, the Americas, and Africa.
