Tazón de té con base estilo Aka-Raku - Barniz rosa salmón con fisuración - Cerámica - Japón - 1900-2000
Item Description:
This is a beautiful Japanese tea bowl (chawan) in the Aka-Raku (Red Raku) style, featuring a warm salmon-pink glaze with distinctive crazing patterns and an elevated pedestal foot.
From a collection that includes traditional Japanese tea ceramics, this bowl exemplifies the refined aesthetic of Raku ware tea ceremony vessels.
The bowl displays a luminous coral-pink to salmon-orange glaze that covers the entire surface, creating a soft, warm glow.
The glaze exhibits an extensive network of fine crazing (crackle lines) across the surface, a natural result of the differential contraction between the clay body and glaze during cooling.
These cracks, known as "kannyu" in Japanese, are highly prized as they develop and deepen over time with use, creating a living patina that tells the story of the bowl's journey through countless tea ceremonies.
The footed form (daizara-gata or goblet shape) with its pronounced pedestal base is characteristic of certain Raku and Kyoto ceramic traditions.
This elevated design not only provides an elegant silhouette but also serves practical purposes in tea ceremony, making the bowl easier to handle and allowing air circulation beneath.
Small iron spots visible on the surface add natural character and demonstrate the organic nature of the firing process.
Raku ware originated in 16th century Kyoto under the guidance of tea master Sen no Rikyu and potter Chojiro, becoming deeply intertwined with the philosophy of wabi-cha tea ceremony.
The soft, porous nature of Raku clay and the low-temperature firing create bowls that feel warm to the touch and retain heat beautifully, making them ideal vessels for enjoying matcha.
The hand-formed quality and deliberate irregularities embody the tea ceremony principles of humility, naturalness, and finding beauty in imperfection.
