2005 Bodegas Montecillo, 150 Aniversario Edicion Limitada - Rioja Gran Reserva - 1 Botella (0,75 L)

Bodegas Montecillo was founded in 1870 in the town of Fuenmayor, in the Rioja Alta region. Limited production: 2,798 bottles. Aging Wine Bottle No. 0967 It is one of the oldest wineries in the Rioja DOCa—the third oldest in Rioja. From 1870 to 1973, it belonged to the founding Navajas family; in 1973, it was acquired by the Osborne family or group, who modernized it while maintaining its traditions. Throughout its history, it has combined tradition—underground cellars, classic aging methods, and respect for old vines—with technical modernization, earning it a solid reputation both within and outside of Spain. Montecillo has built a reputation based on wines with excellent aging potential and a careful selection of grapes and vineyards, often from old vines. In short: Montecillo is a historic winery, with over a century and a half of tradition, that has adapted to the times without losing its classic essence. Montecillo Gran Reserva Selección Especial 2005 This is a limited edition—created to commemorate Montecillo's 150th anniversary. Only 2,798 750ml bottles were produced. Blend: 70% Tempranillo, 20% Graciano, and 10% Maturana Tinta. The grapes come from an estate with vines over 60 years old, in Rioja Alta, with clay-limestone soils and abundant pebbles. Hand-harvested, transported in small crates, and meticulously selected at the winery. Fermentation takes place in underground cement tanks at 28°C after cold pre-cooling, with controlled pump-overs. Maceration with the skins lasts for more than two weeks, with frequent tastings to achieve the desired extraction. Extra-long aging: 62 months (over 5 years) in extra-fine grain French oak barrels, selected from more than 40 options. After aging in oak barrels, the wine was blended in cement tanks to allow the tannins to integrate, followed by a long bottle aging period before release. It was awarded the Grand Gold Medal at the 2021 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles international wine competition. It received high marks from critics: Tim Atkin's "Rioja 2021 Special Report" gave it 94 points, and Decanter magazine awarded it 92 points. Always in a private cellar with controlled temperature.
