Cofre de efectivo de comerciante japonés – herrajes de hierro originales y pátina - Madera - Japón - Edo Late Edo (1800) - Early Meiji (1880)

Item Description: A fine example of a late Edo to early Meiji period Japanese wooden merchant’s cash box (known as zenibako), this compact yet solid piece would have originally been used by merchants or tradesmen to store coins, inkstones, or personal accessories. Crafted from sugi (Japanese cedar) or keyaki (zelkova) wood and finished with a deep reddish-brown lacquer, the box features multiple drawers of varying sizes, some lined with antique washi paper — including one sheet containing calligraphy or accounting records. It also includes a hidden upper compartment accessible via a sliding lid and removable interior cover, which would have been used for concealing valuables or ink tools. The iron fittings — hinges, drawer pulls, and decorative lock plates — are original and show beautiful aged patina, consistent with 19th-century Japanese hardware. This object not only retains functional charm but also offers rich decorative appeal, blending history, craftsmanship, and utility. Size & Weight: Height: 23.5 cm Width: 22.5 cm Depth: 32 cm Weight: 3700 g NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. I appreciate your cooperation.
