The damage must be reported to your local post office within 7 days of delivery, and promptly to us and Catawiki support. 【Product details】 This original Meiji 27 (1894) triptych (three-sheet woodblock print) is by Yōsai Nobukazu (揚斎延一, 1872–1944), a pupil of Yōshū Chikanobu. Active during the late Meiji period, Nobukazu gained fame for his nishiki-e depictions of the First Sino-Japanese War, the Russo-Japanese War, and other contemporary historical events. The scene depicts Minister Ōshima negotiating in Korea (“Kan-tei” being a contemporary Japanese term for Korea). These diplomatic talks occurred during the tense months leading up to the First Sino-Japanese War, when Japan and China competed for influence over the Korean peninsula. This print thus captures not only a moment of political theatre but also a pivotal episode in East Asian history. The print appears to employ urushi-e (lacquer-picture) effects on the black areas of the uniforms, shoes, and hats — a technique developed in the Edo period to create a glossy, lacquer-like surface. In this example, typical of some Meiji-era war prints, the execution shows minor imperfections in the printing, yet still adds depth and visual interest to the composition. All three sheets each have a small hole in one corner. There is minor foxing and light blemishing, with a few small red ink spots visible in the central panel. A faint aged paper odor is present.
