Traditionally displayed during the Boy’s Festival (Tango no Sekku) on 5 May, such figures are symbols of strength and protection, reflecting the samurai spirit and the wish for a boy’s healthy growth and courage. The figure is dressed in a splendid brocade robe featuring rich brown, black, and orange tones woven with gold threads. The textile displays large peony and arabesque motifs, symbolising prosperity and resilience. The expressive face, with a stern gaze and a full black beard, conveys Shoki’s commanding presence, while the gold hat and sword complete his majestic appearance. The doll stands on a wooden base finished with black lacquer, enhancing its refined presentation. There are minor blemishes, including a slight stain on the belt, a few tiny holes in the mesh decoration on the hat, and small paint loss on the fingers, but overall it remains in good used condition.
